What’s On: Your event guide for the week ahead

What’s On: Your event guide for the week ahead

Although it’s only a couple of weeks until our next Bank Holiday fix, that doesn’t mean that we can’t mourn the loss of our May break. Especially when the weather was so beautiful. But we move along, and focus on the myriad of exciting events taking place around the city this week. Shopping, fitness, tech and comedy are all included in what’s on for the week. You’ll be planning that next Bank Holiday in no time. Happy weekend from IMAGE!

Saturday: Go shopping at the Irish Designer Sample Sale in Galway

For all of us that have dreamed about shopping a designer sample sale, we’re in luck. After a run in Dublin and Cork, 12 Irish designers will feature in a two-day sample sale in the stylish g hotel this weekend. The launch party kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, with all the designers and some Stonewell cider to keep you company while you shop. If you’re a fan of Jill De Burca, Theo & George or Sian Jacobs, head along with tote bags in tow.

Sunday: Bag a bargain at Fashion Relief

We’re keeping the shopping buzz going with this one. If you’re partial to a charity shop sweep as part of your shopping trips, then head to Fashion Relief this Sunday in the RDS. With donations of clothes from stylish celebrities such as Rozanna Purcell, Kathryn Thomas and Helen Steele, and proceeds going towards the hunger crisis in East Africa, this is shopping you can feel good about.

All weekend: Wander through the People’s Art Exhibition

One of the loveliest activities of a summer in Dublin is to stroll around Stephen’s Green and check out the People’s Art. Hundreds of the city’s artists gather together to display and sell their wares, and it’s the best opportunity to pick up a piece of the city. But if you’re just there to look, it’s a summer past-time that’s been popular for years.

All weekend: Hone your summer body at Wellfest

Food stations, talks from amazing guest speakers and fitness classes galore; Wellfest is back. The fitness and wellness event of the year is set to host classes in everything from Pilates to Zumba, and talks from experts like Joe Wicks and Davina McCall. It’s just €70 for a weekend ticket; well worth it for the wealth of information (and the good burn in your calves) that you’ll receive over the two days.

Tuesday: Get connected with Women in Tech

The number of women in technology and other STEM positions has increased massively in recent years, but it can still be hard to network and find like-minded women to work with in our own city. Workday’s first Women in Tech meetup in Dublin takes place on Tuesday evening and gives a great opportunity to discuss industry issues and get connected with others. If you’re into tech or want to invest in a tech career, get there early and get a good seat for the panel discussion.

Thursday: Have a laugh at Time of the Month

Women are told way too often that they’re not funny enough to be comedians, but as any of us who’ve spent an evening with our best mates laughing until wine came out of our noses, that’s simply not true. Time of the Month is a really cool meet-up-type event, that gives Dublin’s funny women a chance to share scripts, get advice on material, and listen to experts on how it’s done. The night also gives you the opportunity to get up on stage and show what you’ve got. A really fun way to spend a Thursday after work.
