You’re invited to celebrate the final issue of GUTS Magazine in the Chocolate Factory, Dublin 1, this coming Thursday, December 15th. Created by Roisin Agnew, the mag was initially set up through a Kickstarter fund whose main goal was to “act as a tiny cornerstone for people’s experiences in Dublin now”. Six issues later and Roisin and her team of creative designers, writers, concept creators, thinkers and doers have definitely made their mark in publishing in Dublin – and indeed the wider community. Issue six – the final issue – is all about shaming and includes illustrations by Robert Mirolo with writing from Seamas O?Reilly, Sinead Burke, Alison Spittle, Alan Maguire, Zoe Jellicoe, Daniel Gray, Vickey Curtis, Robbie Lawlor, and Roisin Kiberd.?Prints and magazines will be on sale on the night, with special packages available for Christmas gifts. On Tuesday 13 December at 7pm Irish artist Jaki Irvine presents a one-off live performance of If the Ground Should Open…in the atmospheric surrounds of the Great Hall of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Directed by Jaki Irvine this unique live concert will be performed by nine female musicians playing all eleven tracks that comprise this new work, one of IMMA’s major commissions for 2016.?If the Ground Should Open? is a new sound and film work that takes as a point of departure Irvine’s 2013 novel ?Days of Surrender?. The novel focuses on Elizabeth O?Farrell and Julia Grenan; two of more than a hundred women who were ready to die or kill for the possibility of a different Ireland but whose stories were all but written out of official Irish history, consigned to the margins as the narrative was masculinized. Tickets for the performance are €8, which includes booking fee and a post-performance drinks reception. Tickets can be booked here.
