ALIAS GRACE

Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, this miniseries follows Irish immigrant Grace Marks, a servant in Canada who, along with stable hand James McDermott, was convicted of the murders of their employer and his housekeeper in 1843. Available on Netflix from November 3.

PROPERTY OF THE STATE

Based on true events in Co Clare in 1994, this tells the story of murderer Brendan O’Donnell as seen through the eyes of his sister, Ann Marie (played by Aisling Loftus, above). Kit Ryan’s award-winning film explores how misdiagnosis, a lack of mental illness care, and domestic and institutional abuse could lead to tragic consequences. Out now.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES

Emma Stone stars alongside Steve Carell in this biopic about the famed 1973 tennis match between women’s world number one Billie Jean King and ex-men’s champion Bobby Riggs. Out November 24.

BREATHE

When Robin (played by Andrew Garfield) is paralysed by polio, his wife Diana (Claire Foy) brings him home. Together, they refuse to be imprisoned by his suffering, transforming the lives of others with their humour, courage and lust for life. Based on the true story of producer Jonathan Cavendish’s parents. Out now.
