There Really Is No Place Like Home

Ireland is having a moment and we feel like smug parents so excuse us, but we're overthrown with excitement that our little island has been named as the best European destination in the Travel Weekly readers choice awards for the third year in a row.

Despite our often misbehaving and hormonal weather, Ireland beat off stiff competition like England, France, Portugal, and Italy to win the race for the prestigious title.

Tourism Ireland CEO, Niall Gibbons said recently that our "tremendous choice" of destinations available to modern travellers is what's giving Ireland an edge over everyone else

Now in its 14th year, some 15,000 readers voted in the awards which also named the best airline service, best cruise ship service, and best hotel chains to name a few.

As well as that, Donegal was most recently ranked as the number one spot to visit next year by the Nat Geo Traveller's in their cool list for 2017?*squeals internally*.?The list revealed the culture capitals, hipster hotspots, wild escapes and places generally keeping it cool for 2017 which included destinations like Santiago, Peru, India, and Seoul; so to fall ahead of these major cities and countries is a huge victory.

Top things to do in Donegal according to LonelyPlanet

Over 9.6 million people visited Ireland last year adding €721 million to our steadily growing economy, making 2016 the best year for tourism in a number of years despite growing fears over Brexit.
