The Road to the Rising Event Sounds Amazing

Next year is pretty major when it comes to Irish history, so get your 1916 commemoration prep started with this amazing family event on Bank Holiday Monday. RTE Road to the Rising is a free all day event this Monday that hopes to build momentum in the run-up to Easter Week 2016.

O'Connell Street will be transformed into its century older self, evoking the Edwardian thoroughfare it was in 1915. Actors will help re-imagine the era with vintage stands recreating the bustling vibe that made Dublin of the major cities of the British Empire. Speakers and historians will also be in the vicinity to help bring to life a Dublin that was forever changed after the rising of 1916.

Just some of the Road to the Rising highlights include:

- An Post and the National Library of Ireland assessing Easter Rising memorabilia

- The Tented Village - this glimpse into 1915 professions will show attendees how the working classes helped create the style of the era. The Waldorf Barbers? are offering hot towel shaves with Edwardian-style switchblade razors, and Louis Copeland and Sons are on hand to showcase some seriously tailored suits.

- Era appropriate eats and treats. Clerys Department Store, the Gresham Hotel. And the Saints and Scholars Bar are all offering spreads for high tea.
