The only good thing to come from the US Capitol storming is Irish twitter’s reaction to CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan

The only good thing to come from the US Capitol storming is Irish twitter’s reaction to CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan

Kerry native Donie O’Sullivan made his CNN international debut last night and Irish twitter can’t get enough.

Kerryman Donie O’Sullivan went viral on twitter last night as he covered the takeover of Capitol Hill by Trump supporters.

The CNN correspondent was immediately recognised in the Irish twitter sphere and the social reaction has been a hilarious respite from the seriousness of the situation.

While many condoned Donie’s excellent reporting, many more were just happy to see him on the American telly.

One tweet read, “All the other CNN correspondents can’t believe this stuff and are freaking out but Donie O’Sullivan is strolling around like he’s seen far worse coming out of a Carlow nightclub. #donie”

Newstalk’s Gavan Reilly reacted by sharing a photo of the reporter with the caption: “There’s @donie now, stifling the urge to shout ‘Kerry For Sam’ to a global audience.”

People quickly jumped on the thread celebrating Donie’s debut with brilliant one-liners.

Entrepreneur Harry McCann captured it best with his tweet saying, “American democracy is crumbling right in front of our eyes…

“*Irish Twitter: Always nice to see an Irish man, from Kerry nonetheless, doing well!”

Even CNN’s John King got on board, recognising the love for the Kerry native. He retweeted a comment condoning his replacement in Irish hearts.

Donie was overwhelmed by the massive reaction and thanked his newly found fans.

“Overwhelmed by all the love from Ireland tonight,” he said.

He’ll definitely be one to watch as things continue to brew in DC. At least we can count on a bit of craic to guide us through.
