This is the first weekend I can actually say that it feels autumnal - I even have a sore throat for good measure. This, weekend lovers, is why the majority of this week's edition is indoors. What's On for this weekend features plenty of nostalgia, plenty of new stuff and some good clean family fun too. Happy weekend from IMAGE!
"What's your damage Heather?" The classic 80s trope that spawned a litany of new slang, Heathers is back at the Lighthouse cinema in Smithfield for its 30th-anniversary screening. For one night only, join 80s queen Winona Ryder as she forges revenge against the original mean girls, with plenty of black humour thrown in. Tickets still available from the Lighthouse.
We've been really spoiled this summer with new festival talent in Ireland, but it's not over yet. We've Only Just Begun, a three night festival in the cosy home of Whelan's on Camden Street features sets from Cathy Davey, ROE and a DJ set from Wyvern Lingo, among many others. Weekend tickets are available from just €20 from Whelan's website.
One for the kids (including the inner child). Playstival is a 2-day extravaganza of imagination, play, learning, new experiences and loads of fun for everyone in the family. It also has a strong focus on healthy eating and wellness, with the festival in association with the lads from the Happy Pear. Runs from 9 am to 6 pm on each of the two days.
One for your inner geek. Comic Con's are always a brilliant way to spend a weekend, with unbelievable homemade costumes, interesting discussions, comic screenings, guest stars and plenty of cool merchandise. Dublin's offering to the vast world of Comic Con is this weekend at the Convention Centre, for its sixth year in a row, across Saturday and Sunday.
A Sunday afternoon spent at the Liquor Rooms with a glass of red in hand, listening to one of the Beatle's greatest ever albums. Sounds like heaven to me. Vinyl & Wine's intimate listening sesh is followed by an in-depth discussion of the album and its effects on music in general. The best way to wind down Sunday.
