Fandom, rest of the world freaks out…
If the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer premiere taught us anything it’s that we’re all very excitable bunnies these days. First there was the private screening of that trailer at an industry conference some months ago and a flurry of articles describing it frame by frame. Then Beyonc? posted a teaser for the trailer on her Instagram last week. Finally the trailer in its sexy entirety debuted last Thursday afternoon and the whole world freaked out. We even freaked out. Is Jamie Dornan the ultimate Christian Grey? Do Dakota Johnson’s bangs look na’ve enough? How do we feel about slow-mo Beyonc? covers? Does it all look a little bit too tidy?
And once all that fervour died down Comic Con kicked off in San Diego – the ultimate gathering for movie fans where the coming year’s most anticipated movies launch their never-ending promotional campaigns. This year’s biggest draw was Mockingjay, the third installment in the hugely successful Hunger Games franchise. The trailer was screened over the weekend leading to a tumult of reactions, even full-blown reviews, on culture sites such as Vulture. However the trailer was only made available to us global plebs this morning. While we can’t wait to see Mockingjay what with the cliffhanger in the previous entry in the series and Jennifer Lawrence playing the kickass heroine Katniss Everdeen, we’re a little bit tired of the expectation that we have to be excited with every breadcrumb the studio throws us.
Do you like the whole movie trailer frenzy? Or do you think we all need to calm down and just wait for the real deal?
