The Magic Formula To Make A Perfect Green Smoothie Every Time

The Magic Formula To Make A Perfect Green Smoothie Every Time

Introducing breakfast into your morning routine is an excellent way to do just that, as well as filling your body with nutrients, vitamins, and minerals first thing in the morning. Here’s your quick guide to creating perfect green smoothies every morning (that taste great, too)

A new year often brings with it feelings of confidence and eagerness to be the best that we can be, and many of us choose to ditch bad habits in exchange for something a little more healthy. Introducing breakfast into your morning routine is an excellent way to do just that, as well as filling your body with nutrients, vitamins, and minerals first thing in the morning. Plus, a morning smoothy like this can even help to kill your afternoon sugar cravings.

Keep it green

There are a few basic rules to follow here but you can’t go too far wrong. Just think: if it’s green, it’s good to go. It’s sometimes easier to not follow a specific recipe but focus on veg, fruit, and plants that deliver the most nutrients to your body. Begin with some leafy greens like spinach, arugula, lettuce, peas, or m?che. Be mindful of how these greens taste: you might want to play around with them to get the right balance of taste (i.e arugula is spicy while spinach is mild).

Add sugary fruit

Let’s keep it real here. Adding sugary fruits like a banana, kiwi, or berries will add sweetness and creaminess to your smoothy. Banana’s are my personal favourite because they tend to thicken the greens. Use old bananas or ones that have begun to go brown in colour. These are generally better for our digestive health because the starch has converted to sugar which is easier for us to digest. And we’re all about a healthy gut!

Add fat

Fat helps our bodies to absorb vitamins in the greens we added in earlier, plus you’ll feel fuller for longer. Half an avocado, flaxseeds, a heap of coconut oil, or a heap of peanut/cashew nut butter should do the trick.

Think about flavour

It’s okay to not like (or even hate) green veg and fruit, but we can easily manipulate the taste to make it’more drinkable and palatable. Things like herbs(turmeric, thyme, basil), superfood powders (cacao, maca, acai), frozen fruit, ground ginger. A squeeze of honey and a sprinkle of vanilla is also the perfect sweetener. Play around with different combinations until you find the best one for you.

Healthy smoothies can often be undrinkable, but by knowing what goodness your body is getting from the ingredients you use will help you to enhance flavours and enjoy your morning brekkie.
