The happiest country in the world is now offering a free online happiness course

Feeling a little low during the pandemic? Well, Finland – the world’s happiest country – is streaming a happiness course to help us beat the blues

Finland is officially the happiest country in the world.

In the last three years, it has been voted and crowned with this title. During this current state of affairs, we could learn a thing or two from the Finns when it comes to the eternal state of bliss.

Well, it’s like they knew our happiness levels were off because they have created a free online course disclosing their secrets to true happiness.

Rent A Finn will be streaming a series of 60-minute online classes that will each include a different local expert who will divulge their happiness routines.

The website says the aim is to allow people “to connect with us Finns virtually to learn about our nature and see our unique habits and traditions that can help you become calmer and happier”.

Daily habits

Finland has one of the world’s most advanced welfare systems and citizens possess a high level of trust in the country. They also feel an increased sense of freedom and autonomy, all of which attributes to their sustained level of joy.

However, the Finns believe their daily habits are the true key to happiness. It’s all about the routines, whether they be nature-based or otherwise, which keep them rooted solidly in the land of content.

The course is comprised of five live broadcasts which will be shown during May and June on the campaign website and on Visit Finland’s YouTube and Facebook channels. The first was streamed on May 15.

The class topics and teachers are as follows:

Päivikki Koskinen

This session titled ‘Relax with a Finn’ was broadcast last week, but the full video is now on the Visit Finland channels. For this class, you will need some cold refreshments and a big bucket of cold water. A towel is also advised.

Mirja Priha & Molla Mills, May 22

To prepare for the ‘Spend Time with a Finn’ session, “find a peaceful space and think about questions that you have always wanted to know about Finns and their mysterious habits”.

Antti Etelämäki & Jukka Joutsiniemi, May 29

This class is all about movement and is named ‘Stay Active with a Finn’ for a reason. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothes and to have a bottle of water on hand.

Sasu Laukkonen, June 1

Sasu Laukkonen is a Michelin star chef who you will spend an hour with during ‘Eat With A Finn’. Prepare yourself by getting a pair of rubber boots and some kitchen utensils.

The village of Mathildedal, June 12

The ‘Be Happy With A Finn’ session will take you on a virtual tour of Mathildedal, a charming old ironworks village located in Salo, right next to the Teijo National Park and the sea. The lively yet laid-back village is home to 140 people and was voted Finland’s Best Village in 2010. To prepare, get yourself a comfy chair and write down some questions you would like to ask the residents about happiness.
