In a time where even doing the shopping can seem like a daunting and worrying task, Ireland's supermarkets are lending a hand
With many members of the public criticising the clusters of people gathered together in parks and at beaches over the weekend, it seems more important than ever to keep our distance. Most of us who can are now working from home, avoiding public transport wherever possible, and with recreational businesses largely shut, there is not much to get us out of the house.
Apart from buying groceries. Buying food and cleaning supplies is still essential, even though we are all doing our best to maintain social distancing, and we still need to make sure that we have enough food and supplies to keep our households going during this strange time.
But heading to the supermarket, with long queuing times, and how difficult it is to maintain 2 metres between yourself and other customers, seems scary right now. Thankfully though, many of the country's favourite supermarkets and food stores are offering home delivery, so you can avoid the shops themselves, and stay home as much as possible.

If you live near the Avoca stores in Kilmacanoge, Rathcoole or Dunboyne, and are missing your fix, you're in luck. These stores are offering an Order, Collection and Delivery Service, which will prioritise the elderly and at-risk groups during the pandemic. You can order from Avoca's At Home Catering Menu, and add essentials like butter, bread, pasta, meat, milk, eggs and fresh fruit & veg as you need them. Simply ring your local store between 9 am and 5 pm on weekdays to place your order, and it will be delivered within two working days.
Even with increased demand, Supervalu is keeping up their delivery service across the country, and have also implemented contactless deliveries for added safety. To order, register with Supervalu and you can order your shopping from your nearest store. The delivery drivers will leave your order at your doorstep but will not enter the house. If you are elderly or immobile, you can leave a note when ordering to instruct the driver that you need some help getting the delivery indoors.
Tesco is also keeping up their delivery service across Ireland, so there's no need to resort to panic buying. Register online to create an account and begin your shopping, and you can even get €10 off when you spend €60 or more. There is increased demand across all stores, so don't be alarmed if you can't get a delivery slot right away.
New business Buymie has teamed up with stores like Lidl and Tesco to offer a delivery service. Their shoppers will collect your order and deliver to your door if you don't want to head out yourself. Download the app and select your products, and select a time to be delivered (between one hour and seven days from ordering).
