Spotify has revealed the most-streamed tracks of the decade

Music streaming giant Spotify has revealed its stats for what the planet is listening to — and the results are dividing opinion

What song have you found yourself constantly singing along to in 2019? What song has made you turn off the radio as soon as you hear the opening bars? As we near the end of 2019, Spotify has been doing their usual December job of collecting data from its listeners on the year's most popular music — and this year, they've also revealed what we've been listening to for the entire decade.

While listeners are still waiting for their individual Spotify Wrapped playlists (which list their own most-listened-to tracks of the year), the streaming platform has revealed the worldwide stats on what we've been listening to, and the results are dividing opinion in music lovers around the world.

The results are divided by album, artist and track, and span from this year all the way back to 2009. While the results are interesting, they are also skewed towards more recent songs from the latter half of the decade. This is most likely down to Spotify's own user database and how it's grown — in 2009, Spotify had just 7 million users worldwide, whereas now in 2019, it has 248 million active monthly users; of which 113 million are paid subscribers to the service.

As Spotify said, keep up the good vibes.
