Social Pics: 'A Christmas Carol' opening night at the Gate Theatre

See who attended the opening night of A Christmas Carol at the Gate Theatre in Dublin

Charles Dickens' famous A Christmas Carol has been given a new lease of life by playwright Jack Thorne and stage director Selina Cartmell.

The new version of the Christmas classic recently had its opening night in Dublin's Gate Theatre, with performances running until January 18, 2020.

Jack Thorne’s superb retelling of Dickens’ dream-like Christmas story offers an absorbing and atmospheric theatrical experience – unlike anything many of us have seen before. With the Gate auditorium reconfigured, with the stage in the middle and seating in traverse, the audience is at the heart of the action. What’s more, a talented ensemble of Irish actors brings the timeless tale to life.

"Fundamentally, this story is about community, empathy and imagination," says director Selina Cartmell. "Christmas is a time when 'everything is capable, with the greatest of care, to be changed into anything'."
