Celebrating the handmade, the artisans, and the time-honoured traditions, Avoca unveiled its 2018 Christmas food range with an exclusive dinner in Salt in Monkstown. Guests arrived to the festively decorated restaurant as members of the Charlie Moon quintet played string music and a candlelit feast was laid out, displaying Avoca’s festive favourites.
Champagne and sumptuous canapés, including a delicious wild mushroom arancini, were served before everyone adjourned to the dining room for a three-course feast featuring celeriac soup with white truffle and toasted hazelnuts; a choice of duck liver pâté or goat’s cheese fritters; and Tom and Mary Walsh’s duck accompanied by confit croquette, sprouts with smoked pancetta, caramelised red chicory and carrot and cumin purée; plus an amazing cranberry and apricot stuffing, spiced red cabbage and sultanas, and duck fat and rosemary potatoes. The dinner was finished off beautifully with Avoca’s classic sherry trifle plus spiced ginger pudding, chocolate nemesis, and mince pies. Stuffed but very happy, everyone agreed the Christmas festivities could now officially begin.
