Signs of greatness: sign painter Vanessa Power’s life essentials

If you ever catch the red line Luas past Smithfield in Dublin, you’ll have passed the ‘Me Aul Flower’ mural on Benburb Street. The quintessential Dublin-esque phrase was created by sign painter Vanessa Power, under her moniker ‘Signs of Power’. Having worked on commissions with everyone from Facebook to Jameson, she’s bringing old-school art style to big brands, and shining a light on the power of street art. From comfy clothes to fashion icons, we asked Vanessa about her life essentials to accompany her Career in Focus in this month’s IMAGE magazine, on shelves now.

Heels or flats?

Flats. The heels tend to only come out for weddings these days.

Skirts or trousers?

Trousers – well, leggings and jeans.

Your fashion power piece?

Probably my Dr Martens!

Your fashion icon?

Coco Chanel. Mainly for freeing women from corsets and frills.

Most treasured item?

My dad’s watch.

Beauty essentials?

No 7 Protect & Perfect. I’ve tried the other big brands, but No 7 just suits my skin the best. I love the Advanced Serum.

Favourite perfume?

Acqua di Giò by Giorgio Armani – an oldie, but a goodie.

Beloved trinkets?

I got a charm bracelet for my 21st birthday. I don’t get to wear it too often, but it’s definitely my favourite piece of jewellery.

Most extravagant purchase?

Probably a piece I bought from one of my favourite artists, Gary Stranger, at his show in London last year.

Health philosophy?

Early to bed, early to rise!

Vanessa is featured as a Career in Focus in the July/August issue of IMAGE magazine, on a shelf near you now.
