Royal baby watch: Meghan Markle’s mum has touched down in London

Royal baby watch: Meghan Markle’s mum has touched down in London

It was October 15 when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirmed they were expecting their first child. At the time, Kensington Palace said the Duchess of Sussex would welcome the young royal in the spring. Now, as we near the end of April, the royal birth is expected to be announced any day now…

Doria Ragland, the mother of Meghan Markle, has reportedly touched down in London. Her arrival from the United States has led fans to believe Baby Sussex will arrive very soon (if he or she has not arrived already).

The 62-year-old grandmother-to-be left Los Angeles on Sunday, two sources told Entertainment Tonight. She is expected to stay at Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle; the new family home of her daughter and son-in-law Prince Harry.

As is royal tradition, most details of the pregnancy have been kept hidden from the public. Everything from the due date to the sex of the baby will remain private until the child has been born (and possibly for a short time after the birth).

Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying, “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family”.

Already born?

Given their desire to celebrate the baby’s birth privately, there is a possibility the baby has already been born. Over the Easter weekend, the royal family attended a church service with the Queen – but Meghan was notably absent.

Now with the arrival of her mum to the UK, speculation about the child’s birth has increased.

Baby Sussex

Whether a boy or a girl, Baby Sussex will be seventh in line to the throne of England; coming next-in-line after his/her dad Prince Harry, and before the Queen’s second son Prince Andrew.

What’s more, it is unlikely they will have the title of ‘prince’ or ‘princess’.

The Queen confirmed in 2012 that all of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children will be called prince or princess, but the same announcement has not been made for Harry’s children. Instead, Meghan and Harry’s baby will likely be given the title of Earl (if a boy) or Lady (if a girl).

Update: Baby Sussex has been born
