Return of the summer: Met Éireann forecasts highs of 24 degrees for the rest of the week

Highs of 24 degrees and minimal rain is on the cards for the east of the country this week

Those hoping for a final chance at an Indian summer are in luck this week, as Met Éireann forecasts fine weather until the weekend.

Above-average temperatures and minimal rainfall, especially in the east of the country, is forecast for this week, with the west seeing some scattered showers.

Today, Monday, saw the week get off to a fine start, and tonight will be mild and humid in most areas, with lows of just 11 to 15 degrees.

Tuesday will see warm, sunny spells across the country, with highest temperates ranging from 19 to 24 degrees, warmest in Leinster.

On Wednesday, the mild weather will continue, with slightly cooler temperatures in east Ulster and on Irish Sea coastal areas. Wednesday night will remain dry and clear, with some mist and fog patches.

Thursday will start dry with cloud and sunny intervals, with the risk of some showers developing in the afternoon, mainly in Munster and Connacht. Maximum temperatures will range from 16 to 20 degrees, warmest in the west of the country.

Heading into the weekend, the warm weather thankfully looks set to continue, with a high-pressure front dominating the weather across Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Dry, settled weather will prevail across the country, with warm temperatures.
