Princess Beatrice’s fiancé makes royal history with best man choice

Princess Beatrice’s fiancé makes royal history with best man choice

Ahead of his wedding to Princess Beatrice this May, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is making history with his adorable choice for a best man

Ahead of their spring wedding on May 29th,  Buckingham Palace announced they would wed in a private ceremony at the 150-seat Chapel Royal, followed by a party in the private palace gardens, hosted by Queen Elizabeth.

The Chapel Royal, while steeped in history, is a busy working chapel and is often open to the public for religious services. Many private services have taken place here, such as the christenings of Prince William’s sons Prince George and Prince Louis. The Chapel Royal also hosted the wedding of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1840.

Following the controversies surrounding the princess’s father Prince Andrew stepping away from his royal duties, the couple intended a more private affair. The wedding will apparently not be broadcast and the couple will eschew a public carriage processional.

And more details are emerging: According to reports, Mozzi’s three-year-old son Christopher from his first marriage will be his best man, which makes him the youngest best man ever at a royal wedding. He was asked by the couple as her future stepmother Beatrice, wanted him to be included in every aspect of the day.

The news of Beatrice’s engagement came one year after her sister, Princess Eugenie, married her husband, Jack Brooksbank. Their wedding took place in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle (the same location of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day

A new royal title

It was also reported that Princess Beatrice will not become the “Duchess of York” like her mother, Sarah Ferguson,  following her vows.

The 31-year-old royal will, however, inherit a title that has nothing to do with the British royal family, according to her future father-in-law.

Edoardo’s father Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, an Italian count, spoke to the Mail Online about Beatrice and Edoardo’s upcoming nuptials, and he confirmed that Beatrice will be granted the title of countess upon the marriage.

He confirmed that Beatrice’s new title — styled in Italian as “Contessa” and “Nobile Donna” — can be passed down to their children, therefore altering titles in the British royal family’s line of succession.

“Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation. He is a count — his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna,” Mozzi explained.
