Prince Charles agrees to walk Meghan Markle down the aisle

With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding due to take place on Saturday and the bride's father indisposed, the question on everybody’s mind was, ‘who’s going to walk her down the aisle?’ Traditionally, the bride’s father takes on the role; but after undergoing heart surgery in the United States, Thomas Markle will be unable to attend the ceremony.

Kensington Palace released a statement this morning to say Prince Charles will be the one to give Meghan away. “Ms Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her wedding day,” the statement read. “The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms Markle to the Royal Family in this way.”

The bride-to-be also released a statement in which she thanked people for their well-wishes, many of which followed the news of her father’s illness. “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” she said in a statement via the palace Twitter page. “I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health. I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday.”

The wedding ceremony takes place at 12 pm in St George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. It will be broadcast live on both the BBC and Sky News from 9:30 am.
