Pedestrianisation trials in areas around Grafton Street get underway today

Streets near the Grafton Street area will be open only to pedestrians this weekend to help economic recovery in the city centre

A number of streets in Dublin will begin pedestrianisation trials this weekend.

The trials will continue for four consecutive weekends.

Each location is to be closed to vehicles between 11 am and 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and on the bank holiday Monday, August 3.

Anne Street South from the junction of Dawson Street, Duke Street from the junction of Dawson Street, South William Street from the Brown Thomas car park exit to Chatham Row, Drury Street from Fade Street to the Drury Street car park and Dame Court from Exchequer Street will be open to pedestrians only during the allotted time.

The trial will allow businesses to have tables and chairs outside with temporary street furniture permits issued to a number of restaurants and cafes in the trialed areas.

With a significant drop in footfall, Dublin City Council says the move is to help economic recovery in the city centre.
