Irish actor Paul Mescal has been cast in his first feature film alongside some very well-known Hollywood stars

Kildare native and Normal People star Paul Mescal has been cast in his first feature film.

The Lost Daughter is the directorial debut of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and is an adaption of the book of the same name by Elena Ferrante. The film will also star Oscar winner Olivia Coleman, Irish actress Jessie Buckley, and Dakota Johnson.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the story and reported that Coleman will play a college professor who becomes consumed by a woman and her young daughter who she watches on the beach. All the while, memories of her own decisions as a young mother begin to resurface.

Mescal shared the news on Twitter saying, “I’m a very excited boy!”

It has been a whirlwind year for Mescal following his role as Connell in the TV adaption of Sally Rooney’s Normal People. Since then, he has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie and has also appeared in the video for the Rolling Stone’s latest song ‘Scarlett’.
