Oh. My. God: A Friends 'reunion special' could be happening

It looks like ‘The One With The Reunion' could finally be a thing

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that HBO Max, is in talks with the show’s creators and the cast to get a reunion together for the platform.

The source notes that a deal is still far from being done, but it sounds like all six of the show’s stars — Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow — all are interested in getting the band back together. They would be, crucially,  joined by the show’s creators, David Crane and Marta Kauffman.

The rumours are timely considering Friends is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Fans have wanted it for decades and being fair, no one from the series has ever directly dismissed the idea, perhaps now the timing is just right. It's the latest thread in a series of non-too subtly focused nods to something bigger than just a two-and-a-half decade milestone.

The show has taken on a second life since airing on Netflix. Once HBO Max debuts, the show will see its streaming rights head over there (at least in the US).

On Sunday night, Jennifer Aniston - while receiving an Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards - called her time on the show the “gift of a lifetime”, she joined Instagram and has been busy – she returned to television with the premiere of Apple TV+'s The Morning Show. The drama marks her first TV series regular role since she wrapped Friends.

She also recently spoke about the possibility of a reboot while talking with Ellen DeGeneres. At first, she told her it won't happen, before explaining that, well, something could happen.

"We would love for there to be something, but we don't know what that something is," she shared. "So we're just trying. We're working on something."
