New poll reveals Ireland’s most (and least) trusted people

New poll reveals Ireland’s most (and least) trusted people

A new poll carried out by Ipsos MRBI has discovered who we trust most in Ireland — and who we don’t trust at all

Market research agency Ipsos MRBI has released its Veracity Index 2020 with one of the main poll questions being “who do we trust the most?”

In Ireland, it seems health professionals are the most trusted individuals in the country. Nurses came out on top with a 97% trust level. In close second was local pharmacists with 96% who are a new addition to the list alongside the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) who received an approval rating of 91%.

Meanwhile, doctors are up three places from last year with 95%.

This comes as no surprise when you think about the trust we have put in the health service since the Covid-19 pandemic began. From Tony Holohan to frontline staff, it has been the healthcare workers who have shouldered much of the responsibility.

People on the street

Rounding off the top 10 are teachers, scientists, judges, weather forecasters, gardaí and television newsreaders.

Still in the green of most trusted are civil servants with a rating of 74%, economists with 65% and EU leaders with 58%.

As we move further down the list, 54% trust both ordinary people on the streets and priests/clergymen. 47% believe in government ministers who have jumped 20 places in the rankings. 45% have faith in charity chief executives, while 42% trust journalists.

At the bottom, politicians are on 32% (still up 10 places on last year), advertising executives are in second last with a rating of 17% and, finally, social media influencers are the least trusted by the Irish public with only 8%.

Here is just some of Twitter’s reaction to the poll.
