‘Nobody Gives a Flying F$&!’

Kelly Cutrone portrait

Well, if there’s one person in the media you can count on to tell it like it is, or at least how she thinks it is, it’s Kelly Cutrone, author of ‘If You Have To Cry Go Outside’ (which if you haven’t read, you should) and all round terrifying fashion PR boss who gives the impression that she’d eat her young. While we’d probably never work for her, out of fear for our lives, we quite admire her ‘cut the crap’ type attitude and the ease with which she shares her views, many of which are fairly on the money.

On the phenomenon that is ‘Kimye’, Cutrone’s taken time out from planning fashion shows to say that though Kim and Kanye may consider themselves key sartorial influencers, nobody in the fashion industry ‘gives a flying f*** about Kimye’.

Kanye may consider himself to fashion what Steve Jobs was to Apple (altogether now: ‘looool’), and the pair may bang on about their loyalty to Givenchy, but Kelly’s quick to address their real position in the industry. In an interview with Confidenti@l, Kelly said:

?I think they have no influence in the?fashion?world whatsoever… I mean, most?people who?watch the Kardashians? (reality show) can’t afford Givenchy. I don’t mean to be mean. Are (counterfeiters) on Canal St. benefiting from it? Probably, but that’s not the?fashion?world.”

I don’t think there’s one person who really works in the?fashion?industry who gives a flying f*** about Kanye West.

There’s a movie called ?Breakfast at Tiffany’s.? Givenchy is a good brand, but is it cutting?edge? No,? she said. ?It’s a gazillion-year-old?luxury brand?from Europe.

Have Kim and Kanye had an impact on pop culture? Absolutely. Do I think that (Vogue editor-at-large) Hamish Bowles wakes up in the morning, calls (former Vogue editor-at-large) Andre Leon Talley and says, ?Did you see those pants that Kanye was rocking on ?SNL??? No.

The truth of the’matter?is that?Kim Kardashian?is not doing anything fresh in?fashion, either. She’s not getting into the nitty-gritty, super avant-garde players. She’s not even wearing ( Vivienne ) Westwood yet.”

Meow! Do you agree? Do you follow Kim and Kanye for their fashion sense or for their general ridiculousness (which, let’s admit, is an enjoyable form of celebrity escapism)?

Cutrone, who’s also a former judge on America’s Next Top Model, had some other pearls of wisdom to share this week, this time blaming Carrie Bradshaw and Sex and the City for giving young women the idea that fashion jobs are easy to come by and that you don’t really have to work that hard, but rather, can spend your time discussing the details of your sex lives while sipping on Cosmopolitans.

“Because Sex and the City ruined the world. And my proof of Sex and the City ruining the world was Fashion’s Night Out [Vogue’s fashion festival]. What was it? Girls in dresses with blow outs drinking Skinnygirl margaritas by?Bethenny Frankel,” she fumed. “The reason why they stopped it, go figure, nobody bought any clothes!”

“No women that own multi-million companies sit around and talk about ‘Mr Big’ for two hours on brunch. They don’t. I have a hundred million girlfriends and I have no idea what’s going on with them in bed with the guys they’re hanging out with. We’re talking about what’s really happening in their lives.”

Are you of the Kelly Cutrone school of thought? Do you agree with her views above?
