Movies Worth Leaving the House For

Movies Worth Leaving the House For

still from into the woods

As we’re awards season mode, the cinema is just bursting with stellar flicks. Here’s just some of the new movies on our radar that we’ll be scoping out in the coming evenings…

Into the Woods

Our magazine editor Rosie McMeel assures us this is a good ‘un and with a cast that includes Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Chris Pine and Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, we’re getting won’t-be-disappointed vibes. Into the Woods is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s broadway hit and tells the postscript of some of the world’s best known fairytales. Don’t trust in happily ever after…

Taken 3

Yes, we know the premise of the Taken movies have descended into complete predictable parody but Liam Neeson is a national institution. This time Neeson’s on the run after being framed for a murder he did not commit. He will use his very particular set of skills to explosive effect and your brain will get some popcorn nonsense time.

Foxcatcher

Steve Carrell and Channing Tatum star together in a pretty creepy looking adaptation of the true story behind the Foxcatcher wrestling training camp. The words Best Actor Oscar are firmly attached to this one.

Birdman

A bit of a weird one, but word on the street says must-see. Michael Keaton reminds us why he’s one of the most underrated actors of his generation and Edward Norton reminds us why we’ve carried a bit of a flame for the Fight Club star.

Paddington

If you haven’t seen Paddington yet we’re not too sure about the existence of your soul. Or maybe you were too busy with that whole Christmas thing. Regardless, this has been a pretty awful week in terms of world news so it makes sense to defuse with the tale of an immigrant Peruvian bear finding love and a family in a really cute London that doesn’t acknowledge social immobility.
