Met Éireann issues two weather warnings for wind and rain this weekend

The remainder of the weekend will be wet and windy, as Met Éireann has two yellow weather warnings in place. The first is for wind over Donegal, Galway and Mayo on Saturday, and the second for heavy rainfall across Munster and Leinster for much of Sunday.

Heavy rain and strong winds swept the country this afternoon but are expected to become more moderate tomorrow morning before turning severe in the afternoon.

Sunday

“Sunday will be a cold and wet day for much of the country, and become widespread,” said the national forecaster. ” A Yellow rainfall warning was issued for Sunday for Leinster and Munster, with accumulations of 25 to 35mm expected.

“The rain will turn heavy in the afternoon and possibly turn wintry later as well, with some snow over the hills and mountains,” they said on a forecast on their website

Storm Freya

Light winds [on Sunday] morning will become fresh to strong as the centre of an Atlantic storm named Storm Freya heads over southern parts of Munster and Leinster.

“The strongest winds from Storm Freya will be off the south and east coast of the country. Temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees in the morning will fall to 1 to 5 degrees in the afternoon.”

Sunday night will be very cold again with a widespread frost, Met Éireann added.
