MET Éireann issues more yellow warnings as bad weather continues

MET Éireann has issued three more yellow weather warnings for all counties in Ireland. The warnings, which are for wind and rain, will remain in effect until Tuesday, at the earliest.

Firstly, heavy rain across Connacht, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford will lead to accumulations of 25 mm to 40 mm. Western counties may even experience hail, thunder and lightning.

Forecasters added this rain warning will remain in place until Tuesday at 7 am, with a strong possibility of flooding.

Munster, Connacht and Donegal

What’s more, a status yellow wind warning has been issued for Munster, Connacht and Donegal. MET Éireann says south-to-southeast winds will reach an average speed of 50 to 65km/hr, with some gusts between 90 and 100 km/hr. It’s important to note these figures could be exceeded in coastal areas.

Forecasters added this wind warning will remain in place until Tuesday at 4 am.

Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan

A separate yellow wind warning has been issued for Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan, and will remain in place from Monday at 7 pm until Tuesday at 9 am.

Here, south-to-southeast winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/hr; with gusts reaching 90 and 100 km/hr. Again, winds may exceed these limits in coastal areas.

Drive safely

In light of these latest weather warnings, AA Roadwatch issued the following statement online, “When driving in high winds, allow a large gap between you and the vehicle in front; expect wind-blown debris, and be mindful of vulnerable road users such as cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.

“Remember it takes longer to stop on wet roads,” they advised, “so slow down and keep further back from the vehicle in front.”
