Laura Dern is quite possibly the best person in the world and her emotional Oscar-win speech, which she dedicated to her parents, proves the theory
I think we can all agree that Laura Dern is the ultimate girl crush.
Cool, calm, collected, quirky and talented; we want her to be our most trusted friend and confidant.
On Sunday night, she won her first Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Marriage Story – and it was a family affair.
The actress brought both her children and mother as dates to the ceremony, telling E News she was "very happy” to have her family by her side. Both her mother, Diane Ladd, and her father, Bruce Dern, are acting royalty with a total of five Academy Award nominations between them. This made it an extra special night for Laura, who specifically thanked her parents (or her "heroes") in an emotive acceptance speech.
"I would like to say a special thank you to the gifts of the love stories in my life, my stepchildren CJ and Harris; my heart and inspiration Ellery and Jaya. And you know some say never meet your heroes, but I say if you are really blessed you get them as your parents.
"I share this with my acting heroes, my legends, Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. You got game."
Her mother Diane became visibly emotional as her daughter accepted her first Oscar.
"This is the best birthday present ever!"

Both mother and daughter were nominated for Oscars in 1992 for their roles in the movie Rambling Rose. Laura received her first Academy Award nomination in the Best Actress category while her mother received her second for Best Supporting Actress.
The duo also brought fashion expertise to the red carpet, with Laura wearing a custom Armani Privé blush pink silk crepe gown, with an embellished V-neckline in black beads, black crystal embroidery, and black ornamental tassels.
Diane, now aged 84, went for a menswear-inspired look in a black velvet Giorgio Armani tuxedo with a white ruffle blouse accessorised with a diamond broach.
