Kate Middleton And Prince William’s Staff Threaten Strike

Kate Middleton and Prince William are making headlines for something other than an adorable and stylish public appearance. The couple has found themselves catching SEO flies after it emerged staff at their London residence Kensington Palace are threatening to strike. A pay cut has been proposed to some workers at the palace because the charity managing their salaries has to make cutbacks.

The Metro reports that staff are looking at a cut to their working hours, with the potential of losing up to €3000 a year. The staff are members of the Public and Commercial Services Union and work in the public areas of the palace as wardens looking after exhibitions and showing visitors around. The union is meeting with palace officials this week, but a lot of insiders think a vote will go ahead regarding a strike.

However, any changes won’t be happening too soon, meaning the public can still visit the stately home. The Historic Royal Palaces said, ?The changes to working hours affect a small number of colleagues in the front-of-house team at Kensington Palace. We have given a year’s notice of the planned changes and are currently in discussions with the PCS union. We value our staff very highly and hope to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement.?

We’re sure the royal family is a bit miffed at being associated with headlines directly linking them to paycuts, but their involvement does draw attention to workers’ rights in an era where politicians use the word recovery with meaningless abandon.
