Ireland's second annual Burger Festival is on its way

If there is one thing we love, it's burgers. So our taste buds were ecstatic to discover that Ireland's annual Burger Festival is back for its second year running, with a week full of belly-busting events, tastings and demonstrations, to take place across the country from January 28 to February 3.

The festival, which is in association with Ballymaloe Foods, looks to find the best burger in Ireland and in every county. Last year's winner was the ever-popular Son of a Bun on Cork’s MacCurtain Street, who are once again entering the furore this year with their monstrous 'Chipper Burger' — made up of one cheese and onion potato pie, two 3oz patties both topped with cheddar cheese, curry sauce, mushy peas and garlic mayo, all placed within a brioche bun.

Other events taking place across the country include receiving 2 for 1 burgers from famous food truck The Hatch when it rocks up to Dundrum, Kilkeel and Newcastle, and Burger Bingo in Drumanilra Farm Kitchen, Co. Roscommon, where, if you sample a different burger every day, you will win a free burger at the end of the week.

Burger Festival is run by FSTVLR, the team behind Oktoberfest Beag and FEAST. Speaking about the festival, co-founder of FSTVLR and owner of Cork hotspots Electric and Sober Lane Ernest Cantillon said: "As a venue owner myself I know that, rather than drawing in crowds, festivals often take people away from the pubs and restaurants. What we want to do is to bring the festival to the venues and drive footfall for them, as well as putting on a great event for the public. Our business model is low cost and low risk, and has proved to be hugely successful."

Participation for businesses costs €95 and they are free to decide how they wish to celebrate their burger love. You can sign up your venue here and visit for more information.

Our mouths are watering already.
