‘Intense rainfall’ expected as weather warnings issued for tonight and Tuesday

Two yellow weather alerts have been issued by Met Éireann for Monday night and Tuesday with ‘intense rainfall’ expected

It seems sunny weather is to bypass the country again, with two yellow weather warnings issued for Tuesday by Met Éireann.

The forecaster has advised that gusts of up to 110 km/h are expected in Munster, Carlow, Kilkenny, and Wexford with a yellow wind warning issued for those areas.

It will come into effect at 6 am on Tuesday and will stay in place until 7 pm in the evening.

Furthermore, a yellow rain warning has been issued for the entire country. This second alert comes into effect at 9 pm tonight until 9 pm on Tuesday.

Met Éireann said: “It will become very windy on Tuesday as strong southwest winds veer westerly with widespread mean speeds between 50 and 65km/h and gusts between 90 and 110km/h… Intense rainfall is expected at times Monday night and on Tuesday. Falls of 30 to 50 mm are expected with surface flooding.”

“This rainfall will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also.”

Today will be bright in most areas with sunny spells and scattered showers, however, tonight will become very wet and windy with heavy persistent falls of rain.

The outlook for the remainder of the week is unsettled but Met Éireann says “the weekend will bring drier and quieter conditions”.
