I’m A Celebrity: 21 of the best tweets about last night’s episode

I'm A Celebrity

We’re now eight days into the nineteenth season of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here. Here’s what Twitter had to say about last night’s episode

Sunday night marked one week since 10 celebrities entered the jungle. That number has since increased to 12, and with the bushtucker trials getting more difficult and the campmates becoming increasingly hangry (not looking at anyone, in particular, *cough* Andrew and Ian *cough*), the entertainment factor is at an all-time high.

Supportive or…

While watching last night’s instalment, which included two bushtucker trials and a Dingo Dollar Challenge, viewers had many thoughts. One: We’re impressed by the way I’m A Celebrity shines a light on mental health. Many of the campmates this season have openly discussed having ‘down days’ since entering the jungle; and what’s more, each of them has (almost always) been empathetic when team members feel low.

However, some of the campmates are starting to get on our nerves. Their mood swings (a combined result of limited food supply and home comforts) are becoming slightly more annoying to watch. In Sunday’s episode, Irish comedian Andrew Maxwell flew off the handle at footballer Ian Wright, for what seemed like no reason at all. The pair, both of whom can develop bad tempers when hungry, became hostile towards one another before eventually ‘hugging it out’ in an intense, hot-headed embrace. The fact that Ian told Andrew not to cry in front of him has become a big discussion point.

Gender roles

Later, viewers had mixed feelings about rugby player James Haskell’s act of ‘chivalry’. The former England player debated with TV presenter Kate Garraway about which of them should be ranked more highly on the chalkboard (with the higher ranking names more likely to win a roast dinner). Kate said she wanted James to place higher on the board, while James insisted ‘women go first’ and therefore Kate should place more highly.

This developed into a discussion about feminism and chivalry… Interestingly, it was James who got his way in the end. One Twitter user said, “I understand that James’ ‘chivalry’ is coming from a place of kindness in his mind, but the MINUTE he overrides a woman’s choices in order to be ‘chivalrous’ then that completely erases equality in the environment”.

Also on the issue of gender, I’m A Celebrity fans (once again) expressed great appreciation of Caitlyn Jenner. The 70-year-old American opened up about her transition into womanhood, which viewers acknowledged as brave. Other Twitter users commented on her willingness to ‘throw herself into any task without moaning’, despite being the eldest of all the contestants. Not only does Caitlyn always show compassion to her teammates, but she also gives 100% to each task without complaint (traits other campmates could learn a lot from).

These are just some of the opinions expressed by social media users last night. Here are more of our favourites…
