The Hills is getting a reboot and we feel weirdly emotional about it

This time last week, I was lying semi-comatose on my couch with a nasty dose of tonsillitis. It took all of my brain power to push the up and down buttons on the remote, so when I happened upon a channel that was showing eight straight hours of pure 00's MTV gold which required minimal thinking, it was heaven. That gold, my friend, was reality TV royalty The Hills. If you're not a massive fan of trashy noughties reality TV, please look away now.

The Hills, for those unfamiliar with the show, was a spin-off of the popular high-school series Laguna Beach, and saw its star Lauren Conrad navigate post-education life in the glittering hills of Los Angeles. She worked at Teen Vogue, she partied at Les Deux and she delivered iconic one-liners in the many, many moments of ensuing drama. The Hills was essential viewing for the millennial generation, so imagine the collective excitement this morning, as we have awoken to the news that it is getting a reboot.

That's right. Last night at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York, MTV confirmed that The Hills: New Beginnings will hit our screens in 2019, and will follow original cast members living their lives in L.A, along with their children, new friends and, presumably, new enemies. Last night's red carpet saw Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Stephanie Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Jason Wahler, Justin Bobby, Stephanie Pratt and Frankie Delgado reunite to give us some serious nostalgia.

Just to torment us even further, the teaser trailer released for the new series is suitably vague - it features an acoustic version of the now-synonymous theme tune and a single spoken line from what sounds like Stephanie Pratt:"it’s like we’re all growing up. It’s weird." Profound as ever. Check it out for yourself here:

Of course, we're all wondering where one seminal character is in all of this; L.C. Lauren Conrad is nowhere to be found in the coverage of the new series, and although rumours of her return are rife, it seems unlikely, as she's stated many times that she will never return to The Hills. We can only hope.
