Heading to Wellfest? Here’s what not to miss

As we’re inching closer to summer, we’re even more motivated to get healthy and dive into a wellness routine that will last. We’re lucky in Ireland to have access to so many options for health, fitness and wellness, and the best of them come together every year for Wellfest. Taking place from the 12th to the 13th of May this year, Wellfest is back, with a must-see line-up of guest speakers, events, classes and food stations, all to enjoy for just €70 for a weekend ticket.

There’s a lot going on over the two-day festival, so we’ve narrowed down our essential picks so you can plan a weekend of wellness that suits you best. Feel free to check out the other inspiring talks and classes taking place across the Royal Hospital Kilmainham at wellfest.ie.

1) ‘Finding Emotional Flow; The 7 Pillars Of Emotional Energy’ by Gerry Hussey @ 10.15 on Sunday on the BMW Wellmind Stage

Gerry Hussey is an Irish sports pyschologist, who specialises in building a high-performance culture in some of the country’s biggest and best sports teams. The Olympics, World Cups, All Ireland Championships; you name it, Gerry’s been there. He’s hosting a talk on the 7 pillars of emotional energy on Sunday, but if you want something a little more personal, he’s also hosting 3 minute mindfulness sessions at the BMW Wellmind stage all weekend long.

2) Q&A with Davina McCall hosted by Kathryn Thomas @ 17.00 on Saturday on the Welltalk Stage

It’s seldom that you’ll turn on your telly and not find Davina McCall on the screen; the TV maven has presented everything from Big Brother to Comic Relief, as well as being the face of the uk’s number one exercise DVD franchise. Hosted by Pure Results Boot Camp founder and host of Operation Transformation Kathryn Thomas, this Q+A on Saturday evening is the perfect way to finish off your first day at Wellfest.

3) ‘The Skin Is An Organ – Respect It Accordingly’ with Jennifer Rock a.k.a The Skin Nerd @ 17.15 on Sunday on the Welltalk Stage

We’re a big fan of The Skin Nerd here at IMAGE, and you’re always bound to find out something new about how your skin works when you listen to her speak. Sunday’s session about how to respect your skin as an organ and not just an aesthetic is sure to be as informative as it is fun.

4) ‘Beyonce VS Destiny’s Child’ By Rebel Barre @ 15.40 on Sunday on Irish Life Health Stage

Rebel Barre a.k.a Orla and Jade are trained dancers and professional pilates instructors, so you know you’re in good hands doing a fitness session with these women. Barre workouts do what they say on the tin, using a barre to prop yourself up while doing movements inspired by everything from ballet to pilates. Now imagine doing it all to the tunes of Queen B and Destiny’s Child.  Sold.

5) A Leanin15 WellFest Special with Joe Wicks, The Body Coach @ 10.15 on Sunday on Wellfood

“And that right there is Lean in Fifteen!” If just reading that line has Joe’s voice ringing in your head, you’ll want to head to the Wellfood stage on Sunday morning. Joe Wicks a.k.a the Body Coach is the founder of the massively popular Leanin15 programme, which gave him the status of the first Instagram fitness guru. The 90 day program focuses on tasty food and HIIT workouts to totally transform your body sustainably, and Joe has the bubbly personality to spur you right on.

6) ‘Access The Rebel Within – Meditation’ by Susie Q. 14.00 Sunday on Wellsoul stage

You can work out and eat all the healthy food you want, but without a solid mindset, you won’t get too far. Susie Q has worked with organisations like SpunOut.ie, the Soar Foundation and a Lust for Life, which she co-founded, all focusing on managing stress and maintaining wellness in today’s fast-paced world. If you want to hear more about using meditation to relieve stress, tension and fatigue, Susie is your gal.

7) The Biggest Lesson I Have Learned About Being At My Best By Jessie Barr  , David Gillick  , Tony Og Regan @ 12.15 on Saturday on the BMW Wellmind Stage

Our last pick of the brilliant events at Wellfest is all about lasting lessons and what you learn from being at the top of your game. The three hosts are all top Irish athletes; Jessie Barr, Olympic hurdle runner; David Gillick, international track and field athlete; and Tony Óg Regan, All Ireland hurling champion. If you want to set your sights high and get motivated by the best, don’t miss this midday session on Saturday.
