Founder of Coffee Angel Karl Purdy uses this ‘one-stop-shop’ smart device for everything

Coffee Angel founder Karl Purdy turned a small, three-wheeled coffee cart into a successful cafe chain.

He’s constantly looking for new ways to grow and is currently designing a brand new website for his business.

We asked Karl to try out the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, which he describes as ‘a smart, speedy one-stop-shop’.

LIFE RIGHT NOW?

“I love my work, even though this year has brought so many challenges. But I opened my first (and the city’s first) coffee shop in Belfast in 1996, so I’m well used to challenge. Coffee is such a great product and it has a good mark-up, but you have to sell a lot of it, so I’m always looking for ideas and opportunities.”

HOW DO YOU USE TECH?

“I enjoy technology, and seeing what we can evolve and improve. I’m constantly asking myself, what next? 2020 brought a huge shift in the way people buy coffee, and we want to move with them. Right now, we’re bringing lots of ideas and energy to developing a new website for Coffee Angel, so that is taking up lots of my time.

“I’ve also been doing Zoom coffee brewing sessions for our clients and businesses. I never close the laptop. We recently put Intercom Live Chat on our website, and while I try to call it a day at 7pm, if I’m up, I just can’t resist jumping on.”

YOUR FAVOURITE APPS?

“I have loads, but LinkedIn was a surprise hero for me this year. I started recording videos on the fly and grew a community of fellow business-owners in the trenches, pushing through the changing times. It was brilliant.”

HOW WILL 5G AFFECT YOUR BUSINESS?

“Anything that can speed things up, help us become more intelligent and improve customer engagement is great.”

THOUGHTS ON THE GALAXY Z FOLD 2 5G?

“It’s a smart, speedy one-stop-shop. I don’t like switching between devices, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G cuts that out.”

HOW DO YOU TAKE YOUR COFFEE AT HOME?

“Black filter coffee. A litre of it, shared with my wife Caroline on a Sunday morning. It’s my favourite way to unwind.”
