Here are 9 of our favourite places for outdoor eating in Ireland

Make the most of the summer by taking every opportunity to eat al fresco at one of these outdoor dining spots around Ireland.

When we think of summer, we always seem to think about eating outdoors. An activity we’re deprived of for most of the year in Ireland, any hint of sun and we suddenly are desperate for an al fresco meal. We’ve picked some of our favourite spots for this, so take note for the next time the sun pokes through the clouds.

Oliveto, Dun Laoghaire

An IMAGE favourite, and not just because of its proximity to our office. On a sunny day, outdoor seats at this seaside spot are like gold dust because of the stunning views. Food-wise, there’s a restricted menu compared to the main restaurant, but you can still enjoy their delicious pizzas and a glass of wine. haddingtonhouse.ie

The Dirty Onion & Yardbird, Belfast

Situated in Belfast’s cool Cathedral quarter, The Dirty Onion is a well-known pub with a great courtyard space for sunny days. On the same premises, Yardbird serves up excellent rotisserie chicken, so you don’t have to go far for dinner then a pint. thedirtyonion.com

Handsome Burger, Galway

Recently voted the best burger in Ireland, this Galway burger joint has recently expanded their space to include this outdoor seating area. It not only makes a nice spot in the sunshine, it also makes it more likely for everyone to get a seat, as it can get busy! handsomeburger.com

Marco Pierre White, Donnybrook

Nestled off the main street of Donnybrook, this restaurant has a gorgeous courtyard area, ideal for those warm summer evenings. Known for their extensive steak menu, there’s also a range of other options. marcopierrewhite.ie

Harry’s Shack, Portstewart

If you’re on the north coast, it’s worth making your way to Harry’s Shack. Perched on the edge of the two-mile long Portstewart strand, giving spectacular views, you can work up an appetite before you visit. From fresh scones and coffee in the morning to dinners made with locally sourced ingredients, it’s a must-stop at whatever time of day you visit. @harrys_shack

With a selection of sharing plates that are great for a group, you can sit in their garden area on a nice day. With plants and fairy lights, it’s both cute and cosy (not to mention Insta-worthy). houselimerick.ie

Hadskis, Belfast

With outdoor seating in Belfast’s city centre, Hadski’s is a perfect place to eat on a sunny day. Chef Niall McKenna uses a range of local ingredients, and there’s also an extensive wine list. jamesstandco.com
