Everything you need to know about Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday

Everything you need to know about Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday

You’ve not really seen a wedding until you’ve watched a royal wedding, it’s all so gallant, glorious and refined; the dress, the celebrity wedding guests, the sense of comradery (despite the fact that we have absolutely nothing to do with the Royals). Not long after Meghan Markle lavishly tied the knot with Prince Harry, another royal marriage is taking place.

This coming Friday, October 12th, Princess Eugenie will marry her longtime boyfriend Jack Brooksbank. This basically means this is great news for those of us obsessed with the nuptials of the British Monarchy.

So, in case you’re wondering: What’s the deal with this wedding? Or, more specifically, will there be cake, George Clooney, how can you watch, and is there some sort of theme? (Hint: yes). Allow us to fill you in on everything you need to know.

The Bride and Groom

Twenty-eight-year-old Princess Eugenie of York, in case you didn’t know, is the daughter of Prince Andrew of York and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth. Her fiancé is 32-year-old Jack Brooksbank, who formerly managed a nightclub and is now the U.K. ambassador for George Clooney’s tequila brand, Casamigos. The pair will tie the knot in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle; yes, the same venue where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot.

Where to watch it

Amidst the rumours that the BBC reportedly rejected the offer to air the wedding, ITV has agreed to show the wedding on their channel, from 9.25 am on Friday 12th October. It will air as part of a special edition of This Morning, hosted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. The programme will begin before the ceremony itself (which kicks off at 11 am).

The theme

The nuptials will be a “two-day celebration with a funfair-themed party” which is a break from the traditional royal wedding. While Royal weddings are usually a one-day event, Eugenie and Jack are reportedly planning a second-day event for the Saturday which will have the funfair. And in a refreshingly modern twist, Princess Eugenie proudly announced that the couple Jack is making it a priority to have an eco-friendly event, making the day “plastic-free”.

The Wedding dress

While there hasn’t been any confirmation, some details have also surfaced about the Princess’ potential dress. Reports suggest that Eugenie will be wearing a dress by one of her favourite designers Erdem. Eugenie has already revealed that she has chosen a British-based designer, and speaking on the One Show following her engagement, the royal gave a hint about what sort of dress she’d like to wear. When asked if she would prefer a meringue or straight gown, she replied: “Maybe a mix of both. Can you do that? Is there such a thing? No meringue shoulders – that’s a little bit out of fashion – maybe it’s in fashion now? We’ll see what happens.”

The bridal party

Princess Beatrice will be serving as maid of honour with the groom’s brother Thomas Brooksbank as best man. The bridesmaids include: Princess Charlotte, Savannah and Isla Phillips (daughters of Peter and Autumn Phillips), Mia Tindall (daughter of Mike and Zara Tindall), Maud Windsor (daughter of Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor), and Theodora Williams (daughter of singer Robbie Williams and Ayda Fields).

The page boys will be Prince George and Louis de Givenchy (son of Olivier and Zoe de Givenchy). There will also be two special attendants: Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Viscount Severn (daughter and son of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex). Just think of the cuteness.

The guests

Among the 850 guest-list will be the couple’s parents, the Queen, Kate and William and Meghan and Harry, Prince Charles, alongside rumoured guests Ellie Goulding, the Clooneys, Elton John alongside 1,200 members of the public.

Other details

Apparently, opera singer Andrea Bocelli will be performing; the cake is red velvet and chocolate, and will feature autumnal colours and sugar designs, and the couple will take a post-ceremony carriage ride through Windsor in which the public have been invited to watch.
