The epidemic of loneliness, #FraudBae and dating in your thirties: new episode of The Spill is live

Have you ever had one of those days that screamed for a wine and chats sesh with your girlfriends? Enter Image.ie’s podcast, The Spill. The Spill is hosted by our very own self-proclaimed agony aunts Sophie White and Rhona McAuliffe. With a mix of discussion on current affairs, arts and culture and some healthy advice to our listeners, it’s the best place to unwind and deliberate the issues affecting Irish women today.

The Loneliness Epidemic

Do you find yourself feeling lonely often? Many people do. Sophie and Rhona are discussing what is becoming one of the most serious epidemics in Irish society on the show this week – loneliness. According to statistics, marginalised groups are more susceptible to being lonely, including elderly people, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people who act as carers for someone in their family. Throughout the show, Rhona discusses how a person can even be surrounded by people and still feel isolated, while Sophie chats about how acceptance in your developmental years has a huge effect on whether you’ll be lonely in later life. Social isolation can have a massive negative effect on a person’s health (both mental and physical) and it needs to be addressed – why are people so lonely in 2018?

#FraudBae

Have you been keeping up with #FraudBae? What began as a woman’s story about a particularly unfortunate Tinder date (a credit card fraud is all we can reveal) led to a full-blown Twitter debate, with the man at the centre of the story even writing a rap about the story. Sophie and Rhona give us all the details from start to finish on the story (and how much fun they had following it), before chatting about their own experiences of horrible dates. Have you ever been lied to, or even scammed, by a date? What would you do if you had to deal with Fraud Bae?

Hit Me Up

On this week’s Hit Me Up, Rhona is advising Bit Rusty from Dublin. She’s a single mum in her thirties, with her last long-term relationship ending years ago. Having been off the dating scene for so long, she feels insecure getting back into the world of dating, and is wondering if she’s missed her chance to find love – should she just spare herself the emotional turmoil?
