Few remakes boast as star-studded a cast as Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. The anticipated film, based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel, released its first official photo of the cast all together, with Emma Watson (who shared the photo on social media) as Meg March, Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Florence Pugh as Amy, Eliza Scanlen as Beth, and Timothée Chalamet Laurie.
The group pose in their period costumes, and only Saoirse Ronan could smoke a corn-cob pipe as an accessory and make it work.
Gerwig, the Oscar-nominated director of Lady Bird, (seen in the centre of the photo)is both directing and writing the film, which is set to premiere on Christmas Day in 2019.
Meryl Streep and Laura Dern will also appear in the film, with Streep reportedly playing Aunt March. Dern's role remains unconfirmed as yet.
Watson's role was originally supposed to be played by Emma Stone, but she was not able to commit due to "promotional obligations" for her newest film The Favourite, according to Variety.

The production team features a host of names who has worked on critically acclaimed projects including: Amy Pascal (who worked on The Post and Spider-Man: Homecoming); Denise Di Novi (the woman behind Crazy, Stupid Love and Edward Scissorhands); and Robin Swicord (behind Matilda and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
Few other details have been released about remake as yet, though we're already expecting great things from this one.
