New Year's Eve is almost upon us — have you forgotten to make plans with all the Christmas madness? Fear not, there is plenty happening in and around Dublin, including the brilliant New Year’s Eve Festival. Here, I’ve rounded up some spots you can get well fed and watered, whether you’re looking for a glam affair or something more chilled, and you’re not too far from a dance floor for the countdown.
Book yourself a great dinner
Plenty of my favourite restaurants are open for New Year's Eve and still taking bookings. On my last check, hotspots such as Uno Mas, Gertrude and Clanbrassil House were all open and still had tables available. Suesey Street is a great option if there’s a few of you and with John Healy working the room it’s always a fun night. Remember, at this stage, picking up the phone to get that booking is your best bet and if you need ideas, we compiled a list of restaurants that are your best bet for December dining.
Pints & Party
If a pub is your thing for New Years, you’ll find plenty of craic happening at The Square Ball. They are hosting a NYE Bingo & BBQ night where you can feast on Fowl Play’s BBQ and then join in with the organised mayhem of the games to win a host of prizes. They still have space for bookings.
Head to The Guinness Storehouse on New Year's Eve and not only do you get to enjoy some of the best views in the city, while sipping a pint but they also The Discovery Gospel Choir singing and BPS dance performing throughout the day. A great way to kick off an evening in town. Booking advised.
Well-known for throwing a great shindig Phibsborough’s The Back Page has an action-packed night planned for New Years. Their pizza kitchen is open until 10 pm and there’s live music, games, bingo, quizzes, DJ’s and more lined up. Booking is advised for this one.
Lucky’s on Meath Street have joined forces with the brilliant Sim Simma to host NYE dinner night. Fill up on Coke Lane Pizza before dancing the night away with the whole Sim Simma family on the decks. Tickets are available for dinner but the party is open to all too.
Dingle Whiskey Bar Deluxe Whiskey & Food Tour
Whiskey lovers looking for something a bit different to kick off their New Year’s Eve could do worse than to book into this Whiskey and Food tour run by the team at The Dingle Whiskey Bar. Taste five whiskeys across different venues with a guide and some Irish food along the way. No doubt you’ll find a bar to settle into for the countdown.
Dine & Dance
Having just reopened after an extensive refurbishment, this Dawson Street stalwart is looking better than ever. If you’re after glam and gorgeous for your New Year's Eve, then try and nab a dinner booking here and you’ll be perfectly placed to head on to their big event that night — a Roaring 20s New Year's Eve party upstairs (tickets needed for this).
Opium offers everything you could want for a big night out with cocktails, good food and a slick club to dance the night away. On New Year's Eve, they’re doing a special Moët Dinner that includes Moët (of course) and a 3-course meal followed by DJ & dancing. They are also throwing a ticketed 'Dance Through The Ages' party that promises balloon drops, hype dancers and plenty of dance-offs…
At Charlotte Quay, they are hosting a Supper Series Special this New Year’s Eve with tickets including welcome cocktails and canapés followed by a 6-course chef’s tasting menu. Enjoy the fireworks out on the dock and DJs playing till late.
Festive favourite Saba knows how to entertain and New Year's Eve is no different. They are taking bookings now for a night of retro cocktails, tasty 4-course set menu and DJ playing 70s, 80s and 90s hits. A great crowd pleaser for indecisive groups.
If you’re lucky enough to call Clontarf home then there’s no need to traipse into town for a celebration. Local seafood hotspot Fishbone is hosting a New Year's Eve party. Your €45 ticket gets you a 3-course dinner, bubbles at midnight and they are open until 2 am.
