Celine Dion’s duet with R Kelly has been pulled from streaming services

Celine Dion’s duet with R Kelly has been pulled from streaming services

Celine Dion is the latest celebrity to react to R Kelly’s sexual abuse allegations. The singer’s management team confirmed overnight they have pulled her duet with him from all streaming services.

The Canadian-native released the song I’m Your Angel in collaboration with R Kelly in 1998, but given the scandal, she has joined a stream of stars who are trying to distance themselves from him.

Why now?

It comes after a six-part documentary entitled Surviving R Kelly, produced by Lifetime, detailed the singer’s history of sexual assault allegations. Since its release earlier this month, stars including Lady Gaga and Chance The Rapper have pulled their duets with him from Spotify and iTunes.

While Celine Dion has not released a statement herself, Lady Gaga summed things up when she said, “What I am hearing about the allegations against R Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible.”

Lady Gaga teamed up with the accused in 2013 to release the song Do What U Want, which is now unavailable to stream online.

“As a victim of sexual assault myself,” she continued in her statement on Twitter, “I made both the song and the video at a dark time in my life. My intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn’t processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life.

“I can’t go back, but I can go forward and continue to support women,” she said.

“I intend to remove this song off iTunes and other streaming platforms and will not be working with him again.”

Other artists who have collaborated with R Kelly but have yet to respond to the controversy include Justin Bieber, Usher and Ja Rule.
