Cara Delevingne Reveals Some Ugly Truths About The Fashion Industry

The ‘It’ model of the last few years, Cara Delevingne shot to fame in 2011 and single-handedly brought about the return of the big brow and sales of all kinds of brow primpers, buffers, fluffers and shapers rocketed as a result.?She also was one of the first models to achieve social media success, using her Twitter and Instagram to pull funny faces and show off the goofy personality we rarely witnessed?in her fashion campaigns for DKNY, Burberry and Chanel.

All you need is love ??

However, the model-turned-actress recently turned away from the modelling industry completely, leaving her agency Storm and supposedly falling out with Storm’s main lady Kate Moss over the move. But now Cara is talking about exactly why she walked away and frankly, we cannot blame her one bit.

?Modelling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn’t make me grow at all as a human being.? Cara tells the Sunday Times. She said she was so young and na’ve when she first started modelling that she was unable to say no to anything. “That was my own fault but… people should have stopped me at some point”. As a result Cara felt as though she was ?constantly on edge? and her sudden success and exposure to the limelight only worsened her struggles.

I am very good at standing up for myself now..but at 15 I was hit with a massive wave of depression..where the feelings were so painful that I would slam my head against a tree to try to knock myself out.

She battled with ‘depression and anxiety and self-hatred? and the strain of constant work led to an outbreak of psoriasis that only furthered her issues?with self-acceptance. Cara said at every show ?people would put on gloves [to paint over her enflamed skin] and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something?.

No wonder the poor girl left, we’ve never wanted to give her a cuddle so badly.

Cara also spoke out about how rampant sexual harassment is in the fashion industry. Having started modelling at the age of 10, she described some of what she was subjected to as ?horrible and disgusting?. She even said there are some male photographers who go into fashion ?purely because of the girls?. Seriously, this is awful to hear but even worse that it really isn’t all that surprising.

However our girl Cara, who calls herself a feminist, feels she’s out the other side and has finally found something she loves in acting. And it appears she’s pretty good at it too, with Variety describing her performance as mysterious Margo in the John Green adaption of Paper Towns as “the real find of the film”. The movie comes out in Ireland next week and next up is the hotly anticipated version of DC Comic’s?Suicide Squad?with a host of other famous faces including Jared Leto, Will Smith and Margo Robbie.

We’re looking forward to checking it out and seeing what else this brave woman has up her very talented and fashionable sleeve.
