Britney Spears’ father has criticized the #FreeBritney campaign

Britney Spears’ father Jamie has spoken out following the emergence of the #FreeBritney campaign that criticizes his role in the singer’s conservatorship

Jamie Spears, the father of singer Britney Spears, has reportedly told Page Six that the #FreeBritney campaign “is a joke.”

The campaign was started by fans of the pop star who were concerned that the conservatorship she is under is too prohibitive. Ms Spears is under the care arrangement over concerns for her mental health.

#FreeBritney began as a movement on social media with a Change.org petition set up which will be reviewed at the end of August.

In the interview, Mr Spears said: “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue…It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.”

He also denied allegations that he was stealing money from his daughter. “I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year. How the hell would I steal something?”

He added, “I love my daughter…I love all my kids. But this is our business. It’s private.” Mr Spears stepped down as the permanent conservator on the agreement in September 2019 after more than a decade.

Bryan Spears

His comments come after his son Bryan Spears appeared on a podcast called As Seen On TV to discuss the conservatorship saying, “Whether someone’s coming in peace to help or coming in with an attitude, having someone constantly tell you to do something has got to be frustrating…She’s been in this thing for quite some time now.”

“Obviously there was a need for it at the beginning that I assume everyone knows the issues that were going on, and now they’ve made some changes and all we can kinda do is hope for the best.”

Ms Spears older brother also commented on the #FreeBritney movement explaining, “I don’t quite know what their meaning is. I don’t follow it that well. But I am aware that they feel like it’s, maybe she’s being confined or held against her will in some capacity, but I can’t really speak for them.”
