Bridal Fashion week is underway, debuting the trends that will be fashioning the aisles in spring 2016. So far, we like what we’ve seen, in fact, dare we say it, this may be our favourite season for bridal attire, yet. The styles are more contemporary, a realistic reflection of how brides are dressing. Gone are the days of frumpy satins and ghastly garnishings, remembered with a grimace. Instead, we’re eagerly awaiting sexy silhouettes, intricate details and inventive cuts.

The drop waist
The secret to elongating your body for spring 2016 is with a subtle drop waist. We’re loving the contrast of?Vera Wang’s sordidly sexy, yet soft and etheral design. Perfect excuse to splash out on some nice undies…

The trouser suit
We wrote about bridal jumpsuits being big for 2015, and the progression of this trend comes in the form of a sophisticated trouser suit. We saw a few variations on the look, with Pamella Rolland contributing a slouchy structure to the runway and?Naeem Khan opting for a strong tailored look.

Plunging necklines
Say goodbye to your conservatism with a racy plunging neckline that’s?just scandalous enough to require confession before your vows. Reem Acra definitely claims ownership of this trend with her eponymous designs, leaving the imagination racing.

Detachable tops
This trend is ideal if you have always dreamed of wearing a strapless gown, but feel a bit self conscious about your arms or shoulders.?Oscar de la Renta absolutely blew our minds with their frothy number (in this, the first bridal collection since the death of the designer).

The overskirt
Offering a voluminous silhouette for day and the option to shed material for a slinky evening look has never been easier with the ingenious overskirt trend. Why not go Man Repeller on it and combine a feminine overskirt atop a masculine trouser suit?

The back
Pippa Middleton demonstrated how vitally important the back of a dress is, especially in a bridal setting.?Marchesa’s got your back (ahem) with this trend; use them as your inspiration and people will be saying “baby got bridal back.”

The illusion top
Possibly the most elegant of the trends seen at Bridal Fashion week was the decorously delightful illusion top. Again, perfect for those conflicted by decolletage or shoulder insecurities and the desire to show some skin. We think this feature looks best when there is the illusion of a design gently resting on your skin, as seen at?Monique Lhuillier.

Cut-outs
The most modern and innovative way to show some skin on the aisle is with strategic cut outs in your gown. The peek-a-boo midriff is a look we have become accustomed to, however we’re coveting some rib cleavage after seeing Vera Wang master this sartorial seduction.

Which one of these trends has set your heart a flutter? Let us know on our Facebook and Twitter pages
