Bressie’s new book and podcast aims to help children explore difficult emotions

The third in Breslin’s series of mindfulness books for children is published today

Niall Breslin’s latest children’s book aims to equip kids with the tools to handle feelings of anger and frustration.

The book, The Chill Skill, is the third in a series of books by Breslin on mindfulness for children.

The Chill Skill, which is illustrated by Emma Proctor, follows the success of The Magic Moment and Take Five, which dealt with anxiety and jealousy respectively. Anger can be a difficult emotion for many young children to manage – The Chill Skill teaches readers not to suppress or ignore feelings of anger, but rather use mindfulness techniques to work through them.

The release of the book nationwide today is accompanied by a new podcast series hosted by Breslin, addressing a number of difficult emotions for both children and parents. The Mindful Moments for Children podcast, available on Spotify and YouTube, features five ten-minute episodes where Breslin guides listeners through meditation and reflection on how to tackle difficult emotional responses.

Speaking about the launch of The Chill Skill and accompanying podcast, Bressie said: ‘When I was a kid, one of the most frustrating things was that I had all these feelings and anxieties that I didn’t have the language to express. That is why it is such an important part of my mission to arm children with the tools to express their fears and worries. Mindfulness is the best way to do this and practising it from an early age can become something like a superpower as kids get older. I hope my books, and now the podcast, help create a space for parents and children to explore challenges such as anxiety, jealousy and anger openly together.’

The Chill Skill is published by Gill Books on Friday, 16 October 2020, priced €16.99.
