In the same way the earth rotates the sun over a period spanning twelve Gregorian calendar months, Hollywood actors who have attended the Academy Awards more than once decide to direct. Look at George Clooney and Ben Affleck. Before them, it was Clint Eastwood and Warren Beatty. And now, Bradley Cooper is set to join these multi-tasking ranks.

The actor is reportedly directing a remake of A Star is Born, in which he will star opposite Beyonc?, Page Six reports. Filming won’t kick off for some months – industry insiders reckon the end of next year or early 2017 – what with Cooper’s incredibly packed schedule. He is one of the most in-demand actors in the world at the moment, selling out Broadway as well as appearing in every multiplex movie possible. In fact, we’ll be seeing him in Jennifer Lawrence vehicle Joy in a matter of weeks. He’s a busy man.

A Star is Born is one of the most famous Hollywood fables ever committed to celluloid, telling the story of a young talented ing?nue who falls in love with an older successful actor who sees his star wane as her career flourishes. It was first committed to the screen in 1937 and was repeatedly remade, famously in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason. If you want a good old melodrama that will bring forth all the tears, order it on DVD right now. There’s also a rendition from the 1970s with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as musicians that’s a bit more infamous, but well worth the watch if you’re in a vegetating mood.

Apparently Beyonc? has been interested in the role for a while. Clint Eastwood was in talks to helm a remake but dropped out, and Bey has been waiting for news on the part. She’s been taking a series of acting classes, keen to expand her repertoire. While Beyonc? has acted in movies such as Dreamgirls, she hasn’t been a beacon of critical acclaim when it comes to acting. We think she has plenty of Oscar nod potential. We all watched the music video for If I Were A Boy on repeat, right? Emotional range is apparent.
