Body Coach Joe Wicks is hosting free, online PE classes for kids of all ages this week

With schools now closed because of Covid-19, Joe Wicks (AKA The Body Coach) is hosting free online PE classes for children of all ages. Watch the first lesson in-full below

Joe Wicks, also known as ‘The Body Coach’, is a UK-based fitness coach, TV presenter and author. A large part of his job involves visiting schools to encourage young people to get active, but now with schools closed as a result of Covid-19, he’s taking his PE lessons online.

In a post shared on social media, the 33-year-old said, “Every single day, from Monday to Friday, I’m going to do a live workout called PE with Joe on my YouTube channel, TheBodyCoachTV. It’s a workout specifically designed for kids,” he said, “because when the schools are closed, there is no PE.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’m going to take this over. I’m going to get your kids moving, feeling energised, positive and optimistic,” Joe assured parents.

“So tune in every day at 9 am, Monday to Friday. It’s a 30-minute session for little kids right up to secondary school. Get involved, have fun.

“We’re going to be doing loads of basic exercises, you don’t need a lot of room. I’m really looking forward to this. All I need you to do is tell as many people as you know – parents, teachers, headteachers – I am going to be the nation’s PE teacher.

“Don’t forget your PE kit!”

Monday’s PE lesson

With schools closing in countries all over the world, including Ireland, Joe Wicks’ first PE lesson is going further than he ever could have hoped.

Within just two hours of it going live on YouTube, it had already garnered more than 372,000 views.

“I thought [this lesson] would be just for the UK, but it turns out to be so much bigger,” he said at the beginning of the video. While the lesson was broadcast live at 9 am, it is still available to watch via the video link below:
