3 of the best drive-in events taking place in Ireland this summer

With summer events being cancelled you may think there is not much to do. However, these three drive-in options may solve the problem

Our events calendar is sadly empty bar a few Zoom quizzes on the weekends.

Summer has never looked as so. Usually, the days and months are filled with race meetings, weddings, concerts, and festivals of every kind. It seems we must sit with ourselves for a little while longer.

However, we must make the most of it. Not all hope is lost.

With our freedom hampered, other opportunities had to appear. And, thankfully, they did.

The drive-in movie concept is not new. It started in America in the 1930s and became an important feature of 1950s and 1960s culture. Like everything, it got a modern-day reboot and made its way to Irish shores.

Now because our cinemas are closed, the drive-in events are back with a bang. Taking place across the country, they are the perfect way to get out of the house without breaking any social-distancing rules.

From Bingo Loco to Father Ted, here are three of the best to park up at this summer.

Retro Drive-in Movies Ireland

Retro Drive-in Movies have outdoor events regularly and were one of the main providers of drive-in cinemas before lockdown. Throughout May they have events taking place throughout the country in locations such as Galway, Kilkenny and Dublin, with more locations coming soon. This month will see a very special music edition with performances by Hudson Taylor and Jamie Lawson and a Father Ted screening for comedy fans.
