Alicia Silverstone Set To Make TV Comeback

TV is big business for many women in the public eye today. Just look at Robin Wright, Sarah Jessica Parker and?Julianna Margulies; three actresses?who are holding their own in the binge-watching TV show realm. A hit series can revive a career, and its stars are lauded for portraying intense, complex and intelligent women. Not forgetting that a plum part on a recurring series means a steady income and serious notoriety.

Winona Ryder is experiencing a career revival of sorts following critical acclaim for her lead role in Netflix's Stranger Things?and another 90s film icon; Alicia Silverstone is hoping to go down the same path. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Clueless star will appear in?American Woman, a series set in the 1970s, inspired by the life of Kyle Richards of Real Housewives fame. Silverstone will play Bonnie Nolan, who leaves her husband and enters a world of cultural and sexual upheaval. She and her two daughters must adapt to their new circumstances despite opposition from the conservative people around them.

The comedy sounds intriguing and has an impressive team behind it; the pilot was written by John Riggi of 30 Rock fame, and he will be joined by John Wells of Shameless and The West Wing?- together, three hugely successful shows - to executive produce.

And while?Silverstone might always be Cher Horowitz to us, the 39-year-old actress and activist has?quite a CV; she's worked steadily in film, TV and theatre since her breakout role?in 1995,?from a role in sitcom Suburgatory to performing on Broadway. And she's attempted to break into TV before, having starred in no less than five pilots. They didn't take off, but the word on the ground is that this one is different.

The new series is set to air next year and we can't wait.
