5 of the best things to look forward to once September begins

Forget about the new year being a time for change, September is one of the best months of the year in this regard (even during a pandemic)...

September is a time of year that's synonymous with change. It's a new season; a time for colder weather, warmer drinks and time to clear your wardrobe for the cosy and chic AW fashion (YAY). Here at IMAGE, some of us have been on a September countdown since summer began - we detest the humidity and relish the thought of wine curled up by the fire.

It's a time of year to look forward (don't put the fresh start off until January because it'll be cold, wet and the new year can be hard enough to get through without trying to turn your life upside down as well). Confine to-do lists to the bin (you'll feel much more positive writing down what you have accomplished as opposed to what you haven't), take a deep breath and stock of all your achievements thus far. As you'll see from our below list, there's much to look forward to this autumn, starting with these five things:

An autumnal colour wheel

We've had enough of bright florals. September brings the most anticipated month of the fashion calendar and with it, a warm and rich colour palette of taupe, burgundy, auburn, amber, gorgeous greens and pretty plums that will flatter all skin tones and make our Celtic hues shine.

If going to the dark side isn't your thing right away, start slowly. We recommend a beauty change, trade your barely-there look of summer for something stronger and you'll never look back.

Embracing your pale side

Fake tan be gone. Sick of hearing about how to get a bronzed glow?  Autumn is a time when translucent tones are back in the spotlight; being pale and interesting is a beautiful thing, and few do this better than Irish women. Going au natural doesn't have to be scary, you're going for ethereal which will make you stand out for all the right reasons. Start with a flawless base (the right foundation is key) or a fresh flush of blusher to see in a new season with a refreshed beauty look.

Cosy, comfortable fashion choices

Cashmere (or it's more affordable cousin merino), oversized scarfs; these are your BFFs for the foreseeable future. Oh, and don't forget your must-have accessory.

Autumn culture

Tv, books, music! We might not be too keen on going to the movies just yet (they must stay ALIVE!), but one thing we have been doing is watching, streaming, listening and from September onwards, the best releases are always saved. From the new season of The Crown, to other must-watch shows, to evenings curled up with a great book... And relax...

Seasonal coffee/many hot drinks

Don't pretend seasonal coffee flavours (hello, Pumpkin Spiced Lattes) don't make you feel all cosy and warm inside. They are addictive in the best way possible, and as the spectre of summer quickly fades, red wine and hot whisky are finally acceptable tipples. For a non-alcoholic option, a warm broth or soup will do it every time.
